Building a Resilient Santa Monica

Santa Monica: Our Home, Our Future

Santa Monica’s future is brimming with promise and prosperity. Santa Monica is more than just a place—it’s a beacon of cultural richness and innovation on the global stage. Together, we can celebrate and build a city that offers a high quality of life and prosperity and champions a sustainable future for everyone.

Santa Monica has shaped me, inspired me, and empowered me to serve. From serving as student body president at SAMOHi, and having served as a member of the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School Board for 18 years, to founding the Pico Youth and Family Center, and serving these last 4 years as your councilmember, my love for Santa Monica is my motivation. This city is our home, and I believe in our collective power to ensure it thrives for generations to come.

Ensuring Our Safety Together

Our community’s safety is my number one priority. I know the potential of our community and I know we can be a safer city. We must have a police force with no less than 250 police officers. Arrest records show only 8% of those arrested in Santa Monica are from our city.  We must ensure everyone who comes to Santa Monica knows we are united in keeping our community safe.

This connection fuels my commitment to creating effective and sustainable solutions and is a testament to our dedication. We thrive when our safety solutions arise from within our community, crafted by those who know and love this city as much as I do.

Addressing Homelessness

My approach to the homelessness crisis is driven by compassion, safety, and a deep understanding of our local needs. Our collective safety is my top priority. As Chair of the Westside Council of Governments, I have prioritized the development of the Regional Behavioral Health Center to support vulnerable populations. We know when we can keep people housed, their likelihood of upward success increases. Keeping people housed has to be a top priority, not only for Santa Monica, but the LA Region, and the State.

Compassionate Care and Protection for Every Santa Monican

I stand with everyone facing challenges—whether it’s finding housing, dealing with mental health issues, or overcoming addiction. Our city is a place of kindness and support. I also hold a firm stance against anyone who might threaten our communal peace. My history of leadership, from successfully navigating fiscal challenges to enhancing our police force, underscores my commitment to our collective well-being.

Strengthening Our Economy & Innovation on the Global Stage

As we work to enhance our local economy, I’m focused on opportunities that benefit us all. Improving infrastructure, boosting walkability, and adding more lighting in areas like the 3rd Street Promenade are steps towards a brighter, more connected Santa Monica. My commitment to local hiring will ensure that the benefits of growth are enjoyed by everyone in our community.

Building on our global reputation and proven capability to enchant visitors and residents alike, Santa Monica is poised to elevate its status on the world stage by aspiring to host key events of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and potentially the 2028 Olympics. These monumental events present unparalleled opportunities for economic development and cultural exchange, promising to bring a surge of investment and international attention to our city.

Support for Small and Local Businesses

Our city’s prosperity is closely tied to the success of our local businesses. A strong local economy fuels the tax base necessary for city services, and small businesses are crucial to this foundation. On the City Council, I will streamline the permitting process to support new startups and expedite project completion. I’ll also enhance outdoor dining options, address parking needs in development projects, and focus on revitalizing downtown and neighborhood commercial zones.

Additionally, I will protect the Civic Center and invest in projects to celebrate arts and athletic events, attracting visitors and boosting local revenue. Championing policies for workforce development, local hiring, and workforce housing will further ensure that our residents benefit from a thriving local economy.

A Lifetime of Leadership

I’m immensely proud of my journey with you all—from leading initiatives as a School Board member to founding the Pico Youth Center. My heart is, and always will be, with Santa Monica. Together, we’ll keep working tirelessly to ensure our community not only survives but thrives.

Let’s move forward together, embracing our challenges and opportunities with open arms and hopeful hearts. Thank you, Santa Monica, for your trust and your spirit. Let’s make our city a shining example of safety, unity, and compassion for the world to see.
